Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has ordered that no police operative should be seen carrying assault rifles while dressed in civilian attire (mufti)

He also issued a strong warning against human rights violations, emphasizing the Nigeria Police Force’s duty to uphold citizens’ rights.

Speaking during a virtual meeting with strategic police managers, Egbetokun condemned such misconduct, citing numerous complaints received through the Force’s complaint channels.

Force Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi stated that the meeting aimed to reinforce operational integrity and professionalism within the Force.

“The IGP states that any conduct violating human rights will not be tolerated and will be met with severe consequences,” Adejobi said.

Egbetokun also cautioned tactical squads against the misuse of power and improper dressing, stressing the importance of wearing approved uniforms.

Additionally, he prohibited the indiscriminate transfer of cases without his written approval, noting that such actions burden parties involved and delay justice.

He directed all officers to work collaboratively to prevent misconduct that could tarnish the Force’s reputation.
